Adopt A Ship Young Mariners Quiz Bee with ANGLO-EASTERN and LRCS
As part of its continuing commitment to promote maritime awareness and academic excellence among young learners, the Adopt A Ship Program, in partnership with Anglo-Eastern and Laguna Resettlement Community School, conducted the Young Mariners Quiz Bee. The event provided an engaging platform for students to demonstrate their knowledge, critical thinking skills, and enthusiasm for learning under the theme, “Discovering the World, One Question at a Time.”
The competition brought together selected participants from Grades 4, 5, and 6, with ten (10) pupils representing each grade level. The event was attended by Mr. George Hoyt, IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador, Nenet Cuaño, School Head of LRCS, Shirley Britos, Public Schools District Supervisor, members of the Adopt A Ship Team, teachers, and fellow students enthusiastically supported the contestants throughout the activity.
The quiz bee competition featured a series of challenging questions designed to test the students’ knowledge in geography, maritime topics, and general information. Participants displayed impressive confidence, focus, and determination as they competed for top honors in their respective grade levels. The Easy Round consisted of ten (10) questions worth one (1) point each, followed by the Average Round with ten (10) questions worth three (3) points each, and the Difficult Round with five (5) questions worth five (5) points each. Contestants were given five seconds to write their answers to multiple-choice questions, while clincher questions were administered in the event of a tie to determine the final winners.
Throughout the competition, the students displayed remarkable confidence, sportsmanship, and determination, creating an atmosphere filled with excitement, healthy competition, and learning. The event not only challenged their academic abilities but also encouraged them to think critically and apply knowledge gained through their classroom experiences and participation in the Adopt A Ship Program.
To recognize their dedication and participation, all contestants received certificates and tokens of appreciation, while the top-performing students were awarded medals for their exceptional achievements. Beyond the competition itself, the activity fostered self-confidence, healthy competition, teamwork, and sportsmanship among the participants.
The successful conduct of the Young Mariners Quiz Bee further strengthened the partnership between Anglo-Eastern, LRCS, and the Adopt A Ship Program in their shared mission of enriching educational experiences and inspiring young learners. Through activities such as this, students are encouraged to broaden their horizons, embrace learning opportunities, and discover the many possibilities that await them in an increasingly connected world.
