The ceremony opened with a warm welcome from Mr. Erwin S. Corpuz, School Head, who engaged the learners by asking about their experiences with the Adopt a Ship Program. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to OSM Thome and AASI, describing the event not merely as a ceremony but as a successful journey and celebration of partnership.
Mr. Joseph Mallari warmly welcomed everyone with enthusiasm and gratitude. He encouraged the students to dream big and believe in their potential. Selected Grade 5 students then delighted the audience with a lively folk dance performance.
Ms. Judith Jarabelo, Crewing Operations General Manager, expressed her joy in celebrating the success of the program. She highlighted the students’ experiences, the connections they formed with seafarers, and the rare opportunity to engage with the maritime world. She emphasized that even though the event was postponed, the purpose and success of the program remained — and that was truly worth celebrating.
Mr. George Hoyt, IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador, was introduced as a man of remarkable achievements. Addressing the audience, he asked the Grade 6 students to stand and reminded them that they are part of a big team that must learn to work together. He tossed chocolates to the students, reminding those who caught them to share their blessings, saying that happiness grows when shared.
C/OFF Jeffrey Aldas delivered a heartfelt thank-you message, recognizing the students’ active participation — affirming that without them, the program would not be possible. A brief Q&A session followed, giving the learners a chance to engage and learn more about maritime life.
Adding excitement to the event, OSM Thome held a draw lots, where those who picked a paper with a signature received a ₱100 bill. This was followed by the awarding of winners for the Poster Making Contest, with students receiving cash prizes and certificates. Certificates were also presented to all participants and recipient of the Young Mariner’s Award.
Ms. GeraldineTan, gave her closing remarks and reminded the students to keep the lessons they learned in their hearts and let these motivate them to dream big. She expressed deep gratitude to Adopt-a-Ship and OSM Thome for making the program impactful.
The event wrapped up with a joyful photo opportunity, as students cheerfully posed, waving and shouting “EYYY!” to celebrate their wonderful journey with AAS and OSM Thome.
