In a steadfast pursuit to shape the future of global seafaring, V Ships once again strengthens its ties with the Adopt-a-Ship Program to bridging maritime realities with classroom aspirations. This year, the company broadened its reach to two new partner schools - Estrella Elementary School and San Isidro Elementary School - planting seeds of maritime awareness in young minds with the hope of nurturing future navigators, leaders, and dreamers. On July 8, 2025, both schools formally launched the program with heartfelt ceremonies that echoed community pride, deepened educational purpose, and celebrated the spirit of collaboration. Representing V Ships were 1AE Marlon Glenn Glarino, Training Superintendent, along with Deck Cadets Gemnheal Lagat and Lloyd Andrew Sinoy. Joining them in full support was the AASI Team, led by IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador Mr. George Hoyt, whose advocacy continues to connect global seaways with classroom learning.
Not even the afternoon rain could dampen the vibrant welcome prepared by the Estrella Elementary School community. Led by School Head Dr. Angelito Espedido, the school opened its arms once again to industry partners, embodying the strength of partnership and the promise of education. In his opening remarks, Dr. Espedido underscored the transformative power of maritime education in shaping globally conscious learners. With sincerity and hope, Deck Cadets Lagat and Sinoy shared their personal stories - humble beginnings that blossomed into maritime aspirations - urging students to hold fast to their dreams. 1AE Glarino delivered a stirring message that illuminated the critical role of shipping in everyday life and the silent yet vital contributions of seafarers around the world. Mr. Hoyt followed with a powerful reminder that education, anchored in values like discipline, teamwork, and purpose, creates waves that reach far beyond the classroom. C/OFF Jeffrey Aldas walked the students through the phases of the Adopt-a-Ship program and ignited enthusiasm with an interactive Q&A session. The ceremony concluded with heartfelt closing words from Mr. Romel Peralta, expressing gratitude for the partnership and hopes for another impactful cycle. To complement classroom learning, 2x3-meter world maps were distributed, allowing students to track their adopted ship and visually explore global geography and trade routes. A group photo sealed the day - capturing the shared vision of a school and its maritime partner charting new educational waters together.
Later that day, San Isidro Elementary School radiated joy and anticipation. Despite the late hour, the energy was palpable - a reflection of the community’s excitement to finally welcome the program again. School Head Ms. Edita Fajardo opened the ceremony with gratitude and pride, thanking industry partners for choosing to sail alongside SIES in this meaningful journey. Echoing the afternoon’s energy, Deck Cadets Lagat and Sinoy again shared their journeys into seafaring, drawing a map of possibility for students eager to discover life beyond the classroom.1AE Glarino captivated the audience with his insights into the global shipping industry, bringing to light the everyday importance of maritime work and operations. Mr. Hoyt inspired students to dream boldly, serve with purpose, and lead with heart - reminding them that greatness begins with good character.
