PACC Shipping and SRES: Maritime and Geography Quiz Bee

In line with the implementation of the Adopt-a-Ship Program and its mission to spark awareness and appreciation of the maritime world among young learners, San Roque Elementary School, in partnership with PACC Shipping, held the Maritime and Geography Quiz Bee on September 15, 2025. With the theme “Discovering the World, One Question at a Time,” the event aimed to deepen students’ understanding of maritime education, history, and geography while promoting healthy competition and critical thinking.

The quiz bee highlighted the value of combining maritime awareness with history and geography concepts. It inspired students to explore the world’s oceans and continents, understand the fundamentals of shipping and navigation, and recognize the vital role of seafarers in global trade. More importantly, it underscored the contribution of the maritime industry to nation-building and economic development, cultivating both curiosity and pride in the country’s maritime heritage.

The activity was facilitated by the Adopt-a-Ship Team, spearheaded by C/OFF Jeffrey Aldas who served as the quizmaster. He was joined by the dedicated SRES Araling Panlipunan teachers, led by AP Coordinator Ms. Louella Carbinilla, representing the school head Mr. Robert Matthew De Castro, who opened the program with inspiring remarks.

Five teams, each composed of three participants from Grades 4 to 6, competed across three rounds: easy (10 questions), average (10 questions), and difficult (5 questions), with a clincher round prepared in case of a tie. Contestants were given five seconds to raise their chosen answers, adding excitement and intensity to every round. After a spirited competition, three teams emerged as winners, proudly securing first, second, and third place. All participants received certificates and giveaways as tokens of appreciation, while winners were awarded medals for their achievement.

The event concluded with a group photo capturing the joy, energy, and teamwork of the students and organizers. More than just a competition, the Maritime and Geography Quiz Bee became a meaningful celebration of knowledge, collaboration, and maritime pride - empowering the next generation to look at the world with curiosity and confidence, and to appreciate the seas that connect us all.
