On July 7, 2025, the Adopt-a-Ship Program was successfully relaunched at Langgam Elementary School in continued partnership with Intership Crew Philippines. More than a ceremonial event, it marked the rekindling of a shared commitment to bridge maritime education with everyday classroom learning - bringing the vastness of the oceans into the hearts and imaginations of young learners. Gracing the occasion were Capt. Rommel Salinas, Crew Operations Manager, Mr. RJ Navarro, 2/O Niño Borromeo, and other Intership delegates, joined by the AASI Team led by IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador Mr. George Hoyt. Welcoming them with warm smiles and thunderous applause was the vibrant LES community, led by School Head Mrs. Shella Perez - a living testament to the school’s deep appreciation for the program’s return and its long-standing impact. The program opened with heartfelt remarks from Ms. Dory Gallardo, who underscored the enduring value of education-industry collaboration and reaffirmed the school’s mission of raising learners who are globally aware and future-ready. Moving testimonials followed, as students reflected on their growing respect for seafarers and excitement about tracking their adopted ship. Teachers echoed these reflections, sharing how the program has revitalized their teaching - making lessons more relevant and connected to the real world. Capt. Salinas spoke with conviction about the indispensable role of shipping in global trade. His engaging Q&A game brought the maritime world to life, fueling curiosity and sparking joy. This was followed by the personal story of 2/O Borromeo, who shared his humble beginnings and the journey of resilience that led him to a life at sea, offering students a glimpse of where determination can lead. Mr. George Hoyt emphasized the deeper values of leadership and teamwork as essential qualities in both the maritime profession and life. C/OFF Jeffrey Aldas gave a brief overview of the Adopt-a-Ship program’s phases and objectives, and led another interactive Q&A session that sparked enthusiasm and curiosity among students. Closing the program was Mr. Aldin Valenzuela, who extended sincere gratitude to its industry partners for making the collaboration possible. To support learning, 2x3 meter world maps were provided, serving as a visual tool for students to track their adopted ship’s route and reinforce geography concepts. The ceremony concluded with a spirited group photo, capturing not only joyful faces but the shared commitment that defines the spirit of Adopt-a-Ship. With this relaunch, Intership and LES set sail on a shared journey of education, inspiration, and transformation that sows the seeds of maritime dreams in every young heart, one classroom at a time.
