Southville 3A NHS Closing Ceremony with Westminster was Held On April 4, 2025

The ceremony of the Southville 3A NHS Maritime Program in partnership between Westminster and Adopt a Ship Program was started with a warm and inspiring welcome speech delivered by Ms. Alaiza Arias, the AP Society Adviser. She expressed her joy and gratitude for the opportunity to run the program and acknowledged the students for their eagerness to learn about the maritime industry. Capt. Seferino Leal Jr., President of Westminster, followed with a speech highlighting the importance of communication between officers onboard. He emphasized that maritime professions are not limited to men and encouraged students to consider a career in the maritime industry. Mr. Francis Faner also shared valuable insights, stating that while a career at sea offers adventure, it comes with significant responsibilities. “Seafarers are the backbone of global trade,” he noted, the vital role they play in the transportation of goods worldwide. “Be a captain on your journey,” he added the event also featured by Mr. George Hoyt, the IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador, who reminded students that 90% of goods are transported by the ship. He highlighted the importance of seafarers and their impact on our global, urging students to support and encourage their friends and classmates interested in pursuing a maritime career. Finally, Mr. Jeffrey Aldas, Managing Coordinator of AASI, expressed his excitement for the upcoming learning sessions of the "Adopt a Ship" program, which will provide students with hands-on experience in the maritime field. The event was an inspiring start to a series of programs designed to introduce students to the many opportunities within the maritime industry.
