As part of the Adopt-a-Ship Program, which aims to spark maritime awareness, highlight the vital role of seafarers in global trade, and bridge classroom learning with real-life experiences, Chrysanthemum Village Elementary School, in partnership with BSM, hosted the Maritime & History Quiz Bee on September 5, 2025. The event provided a platform for students to deepen their knowledge of maritime concepts, history, and geography, which are essential to understanding the Philippines’ identity as a proud maritime nation.
The quiz bee was graced by the ever-supportive delegates from BSM, headed by Administration Manager Ms. Leila Vicente, Ms. Dianne Guerra, together with members of the BSM Seafarers Wives Association led by Mrs. Miles Macalisang, and the Adopt-a-Ship International team spearheaded by quizmaster C/OFF Jeffrey Aldas. The activity was made possible through the commitment of CVES School Head Mrs. Ayline Sauce and the dedicated Araling Panlipunan teachers who served as organizers.
Ten teams, each composed of three students from Grades 4 to 6, competed in the quiz bee. The contest featured three rounds - Easy (10 questions), Average (10 questions), and Difficult (5 questions) - with clincher questions prepared for tie-breakers. Adding innovation to the event, organizers utilized the Plickers app, an interactive tool that allowed real-time scoring and data collection. Each participant was provided with a Plickers card containing a unique QR code and answer choices. By holding up their cards with their chosen answers, the app automatically scanned and recorded their responses, ensuring both accuracy and efficiency. After an exciting battle of wits and teamwork, three teams emerged as champions, proudly securing the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. All participants were recognized with certificates of participation, giveaway items from BSM, and academic medals for the winners.
In her message, Ms. Vicente reaffirmed BSM’s unwavering support for the Adopt-a-Ship Program and CVES’ endeavors in nurturing well-rounded, informed, and academically engaged learners. Ms. Cyrene Narvaja concluded the program with words of gratitude, acknowledging the collective effort that led to the success of the event. The day ended with a group photo, capturing smiles and moments of pride among participants, organizers, and partners. More than just a contest, the Maritime & History Quiz Bee stood as a celebration of innovation, learning, and maritime pride - inspiring students to remain curious, determined, and future-ready as they continue their journey of knowledge.
