ASP Launching Ceremony with BSES

Despite the late hours of the day, the ground of Bagong Silang Elementary School remained radiant with energy and smiles, welcoming the relaunch of the Adopt-a-Ship Program on July 10, 2025. Marking a new chapter, this year’s ceremony celebrated the school’s first partnership with ASP Crew Management Services. The company’s initial participation reflects a deep and unwavering commitment to seeding maritime awareness among the next generation. Leading the company’s delegation were Capt. Pascual Manalo Jr., Training Manager, alongside Deck Cadets Mark Pastolero and John Manahan. They were joined by the AASI Team, headed by IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador Mr. George Hoyt, whose presence embodied the global mission to connect education with the oceans. In her welcoming address, School Head Mrs. Maria Avila, warmly welcomed the distinguished guests with open arms as she speaks on the importance of instilling maritime values and global awareness among young learners. Deck cadets, Pastolero and Manahan, shared their personal journeys and dreams of the sea, encouraging students to aim high, work hard, and believe in the power of perseverance. Capt. Manalo followed with an uplifting and spiritually anchored message, emphasizing humility, discipline, and God-centered living. His words reminded students that true success is built not only on ambition but on strong values. He introduced the vital role of shipping in global life and invited students to explore the exciting, boundless world of seafaring. Mr. Hoyt honored the excellence of Filipino seafarers and encouraged students to embrace lifelong learning, character, and curiosity. C/OFF Jeffrey Aldas then presented an overview of the Adopt-a-Ship Program’s phases, sparking anticipation among students to ask questions and dive deeper into the maritime world. The program concluded with closing remarks from Mr. Nolilito Ouano, who articulated the crucial role of integrating maritime concepts into the basic curriculum, and how it will deepen students’ perspective and learning experience. World maps were distributed as part of the program to guide students in tracking their adopted ship and learning more about geography from real-life explorers. The day ended with a group photo that captured more than just smiles – it reflected the joy, hope, and spirit of genuine connection and partnership. It stood as a testament to the transformative impact of the Adopt a Ship program in educating, inspiring, and bridging the gap between the shore and the sea through maritime education.
